The Bench

This isn’t as strong as the butcher scene but I’ve still got a soft spot in my heart for it. Let me know what y’all think. I’m going to be working with the music a lil’ bit before we get the footage I hope but I’ve been at this for a while might be quitting time soon.

The Butcher

Ok here is a rough cut of the butcher sequence. I like it, I’m not sure exactly where it fits in but I’m fond of the the feel. As the weekend drags forward expect a rough of the bench, and maybe a few cuts that string several scenes together. Here’s hoping we get it together for Monday.

Wes has a pretty good idea about the beginning of the piece so he’s going to take that through the match on action that leads to the shopping scene (I’ll fine cut the rough one that I’ve done). That scene transitions into Sulai’s walk through Tribeca (Wes). The walk ends with the ascent of the building (I can fine cut that). Which leaves the fall from the building or the death which ol’ Walters will do. I’ll also work with the Butcher and Bench scenes which can be voted on later.

We get the film on Friday and from there we have until Sunday night to finish…. any ideas!?

Transfer

Today the footage (16 rolls, including the two test rolls I shot with Sulai, one in color) were sent FedEx to PA, where they will receive a “Hollywood caliber” rank transfer. The total, including shipping and expedited service, comes to $345–about what we were looking to pay for a crappy job in NY. I am hoping it will fly back to us by Friday.

MORE FESTIVALS!

So, the Straight8 Festival, which appears to get the most press but is also the most expensive,  is just about to pass. I don’t think we’ll make it. The good news is that I’ve found a few more Super8/short film festivals with later dates and smaller entry costs.This one shows in Basel, accepts most anything, and is free! http://www.saeure.ch/super8/s8festival.html  This one’s in France and sounds quite established:The long established single cartridge Festival Tourné Monté (Strasbourg, France) has announced its call for entries for 2008.This year there’s major change to this perennial event in submission options – previously entrants purchased their own film and sent this to their laboratory of choice for processing with a return address of the festival organisers. In 2008, entrants can purchase Ektachrome 64T or Tr-X stock directly from the festival who will handle the whole processing chain.Completed films are due back by 30th June 2008 and credit to the organisers, each and every film is checked long before the screening – so if you’ve goofed and left the lens cap on – they’ll let you know, so you kind re-shoot. Single cartridge in Germany

 

We’ve been tipped off about ‘Flimmernacht ‘08′ a special single cartridge Super 8 film competition arranged by the University of Offenburg in Germany.Technically the usual applies – a single cartridge of film, shot with in camera editing, accompanied by a separate soundtrack. Completed films must be submitted by 5th May 2008 and it seems that entrants purchase their own stock and send it (along with the processing coupon) to the organisers after exposure.However, this is the genius twist – whilst film entrants just have to send in their completed film, the soundtrack is produced by totally different people – who have no contact whatsoever with the filmmakers. For the sound design element, separate applications have to be made for this second competition (a kind of competition within the competition if you will) and the combined results for each film will be shown for the first time at the festival with filmmakers having no influence on the outcome resulting in sometimes interesting, and sometimes strange results.

Films will be screened in Offenburg, which is in Baden-Württemberg near the Black Forest, on Saturday 19th July at 7pm and entry is a paltry 10 Euros – for more information see the official website where entry forms (in German) can be downloaded. And one more–this one accepts anything done in Super8 but screens other gauges:

First Session

Contrary to popular belief tracking down the illustrious Berkley Anne Carnine between the landfill where she oft resides and the cities of Oakland and Berkeley where she works was surprisingly easy. The days’ work will be sent to the email addresses of concerned parties forthwith.

so many damn things to do. sulai, the BIFF looks cool and i’ll look into it–have you been before? presently i’m trying to get something together for the straight8 festival, which is the closest of any i’ve seen to what am interested in, but the deadline is almost here! other than that, we have to edit and score our still nameless movie! and we have to decide what to do about the transfer–neil and i are at a loss. neil left me two blank checks just in case, so let me know if you get into any trouble there sulai, or if you want to fly back and help out with some stuff.

Neil’s Mission

Co-producer Neil Blan has left for California to meet with renowned violin composer Berkley Carnine, who we hope will be creating a score for the film. An infamous recluse, Ms. Carnine purportedly resides in a hovel on a landfill and rarely responds to attempts at communication. Best of luck to Neil on his trip–let’s hope his irresistible charm holds out.

Rough Purchase…

I’ve been putting time in on this. The pacing isn’t quite right but I feel like I’m working it out.
Oh yeah and is everybody ready to throw some money at this? We should send the footage cross country soon if so.
