i’ll write a little overview of what i’ve been thinking about the shoes….opening shot from above of girl twisted on cobblestones with the pair of red shoes laid beside her mangled feet–it’d be cool if we could do it around the same time to get that perfect triangle of light. then girl gets up and stumbles down street leaving shoes behind. as she walks up the street she hurts her little toe on the side walk, crouches down and then raises her head to big man in butcher’s apron placing the same pair of red shoes in front of her. She as if in a trance, completely forgetting her past puts the shoes on and the man disappears. She begins walking and the episodes with the shoes begin, they are controlling her movments, flinging her around until they lead her into an elevator or up stairs to the top of a building where she throws herself off–now the shoes could either force her to throw herself off, or she could desperately used all of her strength to get herslef to the edge to throw herself off to escape her faith with the shoes. So the idea is that she keeps undergoing this circulatory existance–sort of like groundhog’s day with bill murray. and on a deeper level, how we all keep repeating the same problems, habits, mindframes, relationships–until we figure them out.I’m open to any changes, additions etcetera, I just thought I’d write down what I had.

okay, so i didn’t get a chance to pick up the film, i could maybe monday and we could watch the footage on tuesday?? i’m sure we’ll figure it out. i think this movie will be really great. if we want to show it at the artshow in my bedroom we have three weeks to get it done. and i think we should since we’ll have a captive audience. the only question is how to show it? anyone know anyone with a projector? i mean we could also show it on my laptop, but you know…anyway, festivals, we will submit it to festivals. speaking of, neil when is the deadline to get your friend samples of artwork? oh i checked out the website for the in camera editing contest. i saw no deadline. it looks like fun and i don’t think in camera editing would be such a big deal, we just need to plan it out first. any story ideas for it? wes, would a condensed version of the head in the purse story work? other than that, the artist retreat i was thinking of having will need to be delayed. i have decided to lay over in paris on my way back from india for a week because its only $150 which isn’t bad and i have a friend that will be living there so i’ll be returning to nyc the 9th or 10th…. now, i’m off to try the ol whiskey remedy you suggested wes, because i am sick and i hate being sick and i keep trying to pin down the moment i became sick and why i’m sick and i can’t help but think that my body is being sucked by some sort of energy vampire, because i think it all began the other night when i was falling asleep and my spirit kept trying to leave my body and i was being over taken by another force and finally snapped out of it when i heard as clear as truth my mother’s voice calling me from the kitchen and i thought how strange it was that i no longer a child and may never live with my mother again

Evening.
a crowd on people surround a woman lying motionless in the street. they seem curious but no one tries to help her. suddenly she sits up, looks around, stands up, smooths her tousled hair and dress, and walks off down the street. she is wearing only socks on her feet.
Day.
match on action of the walking woman. this time she walks jauntily; overconfidently. we see her face–she is the picture of the self-satisfied urban socialite. she enters a store and looks around. a pair of bedazzled high heels catch her eye. she tries to buy them but the wizened shop clerk shakes her head no. she throws down more money–the clerk explains (silently) that these shoes are not for sale. finally the woman puts down so many hundreds that the shop clerk acquiesces hesitantly. their eyes meet. the woman puts on the shoes and walks out.
various adventures. the shoes do not obey the woman’s wishes and cause her to betray her demure demeanor on a few different instances. somehow, this “rising action” leads to the speeding car and the accident that we began with?????

a friend submitted to this and, other than the $120 submission fee, it looks pretty good.

above is a great example. they send you one roll, you shoot and edit in camera and send it back to them with an original soundtrack, which they play alongside it when it’s shown. the best of the best are shown with Kodak at Cannes!

………….this project we spoke of before i came out to sunny california. are you still interested? any ideas? i think it would be fun to be able post bits and things in this format. feel free to log in and post anything or change anything, including the busted name.
i just went to a grad school interview in LA (for Film) and had all my nasty preconceptions of that industry reinforced by a department head who waxed of his own prolific career as well as whined and droned about the dismal corruption of hollywood for 5 straight hours, no breaks. i can’t wait to get back to ny and try to actually work on something purely for fun.
anyway, let me know what you are thinking, and how you are doing. hope this finds you well!

right now i have a super 8 camera that looks like it may work, one roll of kodachrome, and hopefully two more this weekend. i have a couple ideas, but nothing that i am especially excited about. what about you guys?
because i am scared of something as open as this, and because the kodachrome is rare and precious, i think it would be cool if we could set the limitation of having to finish the story on three rolls (9 minutes) of kodachrome. ??
whoop, here it is.
